Sichuan. Cracks and damage lead to a 4 month physical examination of the world's largest Buddha statue located in Sichuan Province of China for its repair.The 71 meter tall statue is located on the outskirts of Leihshan city. According to the management committee of the Leishan Buddha scenic area,it has deep cracks and damage on it's chest.
During the examination that will start on 8th October main parts of the statue will be partially or fully covered, according to state run media Xinhua. Dozens of cultural relic experts will supervise this examination, involving the use of cutting-edge technology such as 3D laser scanning, infrared thermal imaging and a drone aerial survey.The statue was built over a 90-year period starting the year 713, during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The UNESCO has listed this statue as world heritage which has gone through many repairs and checks in the past.
